The game starts off with a montage of clips from the first movie, putting players in the shoes of Thomas Anderson (who is really Neo, remember?) Players take control of him right before he's taken to be interrogated and gives the agents looking for him the finger and asks for his phone call. But these issues are superficial there are some saving graces from what we've seen so far. Basic run animations look as if they were plucked straight from the previous Matrix game - Neo runs like he's got something stuck in a very uncomfortable place. The environments could use a little more touch-up, and the character models seem stuck with a bad case of the jaggies. They're really sloppy looking when compared to something like Ninja Gaiden. In the newest preview build that we checked out, the visuals aren't looking like something you'd expect from a first wave title on a current-gen system. That having been said, while in the upcoming release, Path of Neo, you do get to play Keanu's role, the game itself starts off seeming to follow the same trend of disappointment plaguing everything surrounding the world of The Matrix since 2003 although elements of it pick up nicely as the game progresses. They weren't without their respective charms, but it just wasn't what most people would want out of a Matrix game. Players were stuck in the roles of side characters from the films, Ghost and Niobe. One of the biggest disappointments regarding the title was the inability to play as Neo. It wasn't terrible, but it was waaaay far from being good. It was the same deal for Atari and Shiny's 2003 tie-in game, Enter the Matrix. They weren't necessarily horrible, just a tad disappointing. However, when said sequels finally came out in 2003, the consensus is that they fell a bit flat. When news of sequels arrived, I think it's safe to say that popular culture pooped its pants. Its appeal to a generation raised on computers was widespread, and it went on to become an instantly iconic sci-fi classic.
